In some cases, you may prefer (or need) to run your Zoom meeting in a web browser rather than the Zoom desktop app that's installed on your computer.
This article answers the following questions:
"When and why must I run my Zoom meeting in a web browser instead of the Zoom Desktop App that's installed on my computer?"
"How do run my Zoom meeting in a web browser?"
Why should I run my Zoom meeting in a web browser?
👉 If you have a Mac computer and use headphones during your session, you must run your Zoom meeting in a web browser otherwise Blueprint won't be able to hear your client.
This is because Mac computers do not allow installed desktop software to share your client's voice with other programs, such as your web browser, which is where Blueprint is.
If you open your Zoom meeting in a web browser instead, you'll be able to successfully share your client's voice directly with Blueprint!
👉 If you have a Windows computer, it doesn't make a difference whether you run your Zoom meeting in a web browser or the Zoom desktop app installed on your computer.
This is because Windows computers allow you to share your client's voice directly with Blueprint regardless of where you run your Zoom meeting.
How do I run my Zoom meeting in a web browser?
Follow the steps below to join a Zoom meeting directly in your browser.
Step 1: Click the Zoom meeting link
Click your Zoom meeting link to join your meeting as you usually would (but don't click anything in the subsequent pop-up yet!)
Step 2: Stop the Zoom desktop app from launching
A new browser tab will open with the Zoom "launch page"
By default, this page will prompt you to launch or download the Zoom desktop application, which you likely already have installed on your computer
Your computer will prompt you to “Open Zoom Meetings” (or similar wording) but we want to avoid that. Instead, select "Cancel" or "Dismiss" to stop the desktop app from opening your meeting.
Step 3: Join the meeting from your web browser instead
Now, back on that same Zoom launch page, look for a small link that says “Join from Your Browser”, usually found underneath the big blue “Launch Meeting” button
Step 4: Grant access to your camera and mic
Your web browser may ask for your permission to use your camera and microphone within Zoom, which is required to run your telehealth meeting
Select "Allow" so your client can see and hear you
Step 5: Join the Meeting
Enter your name if prompted, then click "Join"
You’re running the Zoom meeting directly in your web browser and can now return back to Blueprint to begin recording.
Important Notes
Compatible Web Browsers: Make sure to use a web browser that's compatible with Blueprint: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Opera. Other browsers (like Safari or Firefox) may have limited functionality and will likely lead to technical issues or fail completely.
Zoom Settings: If you don’t see the “Join from Your Browser” link, ask your meeting host to enable this option in their Zoom settings.

Why should I open my Zoom meeting in a web browser instead of the desktop app?
Aside from enabling high-quality audio capture and the ability to use headphones on a Mac, there are other reasons you might prefer the web version of Zoom:
You’re using a shared or work computer and don’t want to install additional software.
You’re joining from a temporary or borrowed device (like a client’s office or a library computer).
You want to keep everything running inside your browser for easier privacy control and fewer pop-ups.
Your organization limits software downloads or requires admin approval for app installations.
Opening Zoom in your web browser keeps things simple -- more accurate Progress Notes, no downloads, no updates, and one less program to manage.
Can I still use the Zoom desktop app if I prefer it?
Can I still use the Zoom desktop app if I prefer it?
Yes!
If you’re on a Windows computer, you can use either the desktop app or the web browser -- Blueprint can capture high-quality audio both ways.
If you’re on a Mac computer, we don't recommend using the Zoom desktop app however it can still work in a pinch. Just be aware that you can't use headphones during your session and Progress Notes may be less accurate.
