Overview: Telehealth

Start here: how to host and/or record telehealth sessions with Blueprint.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Big picture:

Whether you host sessions inside Blueprint or use another video platform, you can still use Blueprint to capture sessions and generate Progress Notes, provide summaries, suggest Worksheets or Interventions, and more.

Blueprint’s built-in telehealth vs. a third-party platform

You can run telehealth sessions either inside Blueprint or in another video platform.

👉 Host your telehealth session directly within Blueprint

Blueprint includes a built-in telehealth feature that allows you to host video sessions within the platform. When you use this option, Blueprint automatically captures the session audio to generate Progress Notes -- all in the same browser tab.

OR

👉 Host your telehealth session in a third-party video platform (like Zoom, Doxy, etc)
If you prefer to run your video sessions in another platform, you can continue using it. Blueprint can still capture the session audio for documentation, though the setup involves a few additional steps.

Recording telehealth sessions

On a computer:

Regardless of hosting your telehealth session in or outside of Blueprint, Blueprint needs access to your session audio in order to generate clinical documentation and suggestions.

Audio is only temporarily recorded in order to generate documentation, then immediately deleted after the session has ended and the Progress Note has generated. Blueprint does not store session audio.

How that audio is captured depends on where you host the meeting:

  • If your meeting runs in Blueprint itself, recording begins automatically when the client joins -- no additional audio-sharing permissions required.

  • If your meeting runs in another video platform, Blueprint can still capture the audio. For the most accurate results, use our "enhanced audio" option -- you just need to allow audio sharing when prompted by your web browser.

On a mobile device:

You can use Blueprint's mobile app to record a telehealth session but the telehealth session itself must run on a separate device (such as a laptop or tablet).

This is true regardless of if you use Blueprint's built-in telehealth feature or a third-party option.

The Blueprint mobile app functions as a recording tool only. It does not have the ability to host telehealth meetings, access client profiles, or review notes -- instead, it's intended as a simple, distraction-free recording tool geared for in-person sessions where having a laptop open may feel intrusive or if a computer isn't available.

Running your telehealth meeting inside Blueprint

As I mentioned, Blueprint includes a built-in, HIPAA-compliant telehealth service that allows you to host video sessions without having to leave Blueprint.

When you use this option:

  • You have one custom telehealth link. Your client joins the session by clicking your link.

  • The client is then placed into your virtual "waiting room" where they will remain until you admit them into the session.

  • Session audio is processed to generate documentation and then immediately deleted.

Everything -- video and recording -- happens in the same browser tab.

When this is a good fit

  • You want the simplest setup

  • You prefer to keep video and documentation in one place

  • You don’t want to manage additional audio-sharing permissions

Running your telehealth meeting in another platform

If you host your video sessions in a platform such as Zoom, Doxy, or Google Meet, you can continue using it.

In this setup:

  • Your video meeting runs in the external platform

  • You initiate the recording in Blueprint

  • Your browser asks for permission to share audio from your computer to Blueprint

  • Session audio is processed to generate documentation and then immediately deleted

When this is a good fit

  • You already use another telehealth platform
