By treating Blueprint's Telehealth as just another “office location” and hard‑coding its URL into your reminder templates, you can keep SimplePractice’s scheduling, documentation, billing, and reminders intact while directing clients to the video platform you prefer.
In this article we'll walk through exactly how to add your Blueprint Telehealth link to your existing SimplePractice appointment reminders. The whole change takes about 10 minutes and is fully reversible if you ever want to revert to SimplePractice’s built‑in Telehealth platform.
1️⃣ Step 1: Stop SimplePractice from auto‑inserting its own Telehealth links
First, we need to stop SimplePractice from adding it's built-in telehealth information.
Within SimplePractice, navigate to your "Settings" page
Click "Subscription Information"
Click "Manage add‑ons"
Toggle "Telehealth" to the off position
2️⃣ Create a “Telehealth – Blueprint” office location
Now you'll add Blueprint's telehealth information as an option within SimplePractice.
Still within your SimplePractice "Settings" page, navigate to the "My Practice" section
Click "Locations"
Click "Add Location"
Under "Enter Office Name", type "Telehealth - Blueprint"
For Street, City, and ZIP, we recommend typing a single "." and ticking the "Hide address" option so that your clients don’t see your home address or a blank address
For "Insurance place‑of‑service" choose "02 – Telehealth Provided Other than in Patient’s Home" or "10 – Patient’s Home" depending on how you'd like to bill
Click "Save"
🎉 Great! Blueprint's Telehealth will now appear in the "Location" drop‑down any time you create or edit an appointment in SimplePractice. SimplePractice will then copy that Location onto claims and superbills automatically.
3️⃣ Point each appointment to your new location
Now that Blueprint's Telehealth has been added to your SimplePractice list of location options,
👉 For one‑off scheduling:
On your SimplePractice Calendar appointment, choose choose "Telehealth – Blueprint" for the "Location"
👉 For online booking and service codes:
Within SimplePractice, open Settings
Then Services & Products
For each telehealth service listed, set the "Default Location" to "Telehealth – Blueprint"
🎉 Great! Now every client‑scheduled session will already be tagged with the right location and reminder text.
4️⃣ Insert your Blueprint Telehealth Link into your SimplePractice reminder templates
Within SimplePractice, Navigate to your Settings page
Click Client notifications
Click Email
Under "Reminder e‑mails" click the pencil icon next to "Appointment reminder"
Replace the body text with something like:
"Hi {client_first_name},
Your session with {clinician_full_name} is at {appointment_time} on {appointment_date}.
Tap to join: {location}"
🎉 Great! Now your appointment reminders will automatically include your Blueprint Telehealth Link.
5️⃣ Test it out!
We always recommend testing out your reminders and Blueprint Telehealth Link after making any changes like this, just to be sure! 😃
Within SimplePractice, create a test client and input your own information
Schedule a telehealth appointment for yourself and trigger reminders
Confirm that the email/SMS shows the correct time, date, and Blueprint link, and that the calendar invite does not contain the old SimplePractice URL
