Using the Dictation Feature to Create Progress Notes

How to use Blueprint's "Dictation" feature to easily generate Progress Notes -- without recording a live Session!

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Blueprint's Dictation feature enables clinicians to generate a Progress Note by recording a short, spoken summary of a session (rather than recording it.)

When using Dictation, Blueprint will prompt you with a few simple questions so you can speak naturally — no formal note structure needed! It’s a quick, easy way to capture what happened in-session and quickly generate a Progress Note.

✨ How to use Dictation

  1. Navigate to your Sessions Dashboard

  2. Click Dictate Notes

  3. Blueprint will prompt you with simple questions to guide your summary

💡 You can speak naturally -- just share what you remember from the session, and Blueprint will handle the rest.

🕝 When to use Dictation

Dictation is a great option when:

  • A client prefers not to be recorded

  • There’s a tech issue during the session and your Note couldn't generate

  • You forgot to start a recording

  • You’ve just joined Blueprint and want to catch up on Progress Notes for recent sessions

✅ Tips for getting the most out of Dictation

  • Speak casually—no need to craft perfect sentences or format your summary like a Progress Note. Blueprint will structure it for you!

  • Dictation is always there for you! Feel free to use Dictation right after meeting with your client so the details are fresh or come back to it later when you have more time.

FAQ

Does Dictation count towards my Session usage?

Yes. Anytime a Progress Note is generated*, it counts as a Session used -- regardless of how the session information was provided (Dictation, Upload, or live Recording).

*Magic Edits do not count as another Session used. 🤗
