In this article we'll answer the most common questions about Automated Progress Notes!
General FAQs
What are Automated Progress Notes?
In short, Blueprint automatically generates clinical progress notes by recording live sessions with clients.
How do I use Blueprint to generate a progress note?
When you're ready to begin a live session with your client, start a Blueprint Session directly from client's profile or by clicking the "Start Session" button on your Dashboard, then click "Start Recording".
You'll be presented with a few prompts (to select your microphone, indicate whether you're conducting the session in person or via telehealth, etc) and that's it!
Once you end the Session, within just a couple of minutes you'll see that a progress note has been automatically be generated. You can copy the progress note immediately (or come back to it any time) then paste it into your EHR.
For more detailed instructions on how to generate progress notes check out: How to Generate Progress NotesDoes it work with telehealth sessions?
Yes! Blueprint is designed to capture audio during in-person sessions using your microphone and during telehealth sessions by sharing your internet browser's audio (which allows it to pick up your client's voice even if you use headphones!)
For more information on how to use Blueprint during a telehealth session with or without headphones, check out: Using Blueprint During Telehealth Sessions
Does it work in a session with couples?
Yes, it does work well with couples!
There are updates coming to help it better distinguish multiple speakers, which is really the only occasional limitation, but many clinicians are using it now with couples and have had great experiences, reporting that Blueprint does a great job at articulating relationship dynamics covered in session, as well as identifying some of the unique interventions used clinically in a couples session.
We recommend giving it a shot to test it out. 😃
How do I sign up for Blueprint?
You can sign up for free here: https://clinician.blueprint-health.com/signupDo I have access to see how many notes my clinic has currently used?
On your Billing page you're able to see how many notes you've used compared to how many notes you have left.
Can I use Blueprint on my tablet or cell phone?
Yes, you can use Blueprint on a mobile device to record your in-person sessions.
If it's a telehealth session however, it's best to use a computer instead. This is because it's not possible to run telehealth and record on the same mobile device.
💡 If you need to run your telehealth session on a mobile device, you can still make it work — you just need two devices:
Use Blueprint to record from one device (like your phone)
Run your telehealth session on a second device (like a tablet)
This setup works as long as the client's voice is audible in the room, so be sure to follow these tips:
Don't use headphones on the telehealth device
In Blueprint, select the "in-person" option when starting the recording so that Blueprint can hear everything happening in the room — both your voice and your client's
Make sure the Blueprint device stays awake with the Blueprint screen visible -- Blueprint can't record if the device falls asleep or if another app becomes active in front of it. (We recommend putting the device on "Do Not Disturb" mode as well, so that a call or text doesn't disrupt the recording.)
Privacy FAQs
Do we have a BAA?
Yes, a BAA is included when you sign up for Blueprint and can be accessed here: Blueprint Health BAA
Is Blueprint secure and private?
Yes, it is! Blueprint is HIPAA compliant and SOC-2 Type 2 Certified, which means we go through an annual audit on all of our data security practices and systems which is reviewed by a third-party auditor.
In addition, we take a privacy-first approach by automatically deleting all recordings after the note has been generated, which means the recording no longer exists on our platform, thus making it more secure than most other AI Notetaker platforms in market. What happens to the recording after the Session is completed?
Today, by default, the recordings are automatically deleted immediately after a note is generated.
After the recording is processed, we produce a few artifacts:
A transcription of the recording: you can choose to keep these or delete these. If you choose to delete them, you will lose access to certain functionality that relies on this transcript, such as our Magic Edit feature, which uses AI to re-generate a note based on your feedback.
A summary of the Session: you can choose to keep or delete these as well. This includes a clinician-facing summary and a client-facing summary that you can optionally send to clients after a Session.
Clinical Note: this is of course the key artifact, which you can edit/copy/paste into your EHR once generated.
How does Blueprint handle client consent to record their session?
Here's a link to consent language that you and your team could use as a standalone consent form or include into your existing consent form: Blueprint Informed Consent
