Talking to Your Clients About Using Blueprint

Updated today

More than 40,000 therapists across the country use Blueprint to support high-quality, outcomes-driven care. Our platform is designed to enhance the therapy experience for both clinicians and clients by reducing administrative burden, tracking progress over time, and supporting more effective treatment.

While many therapists are excited to bring Blueprint into their practice, it’s not uncommon to feel unsure about how to introduce it to clients—especially when it involves AI or session recordings. One thing we consistently hear from providers is that clients are often more open to these tools than expected. The key is starting the conversation with clarity, transparency, and a focus on client care.

Introducing Blueprint to Clients

Before using any AI-based tools in your practice, it's essential to obtain informed consent from your clients. The way you introduce Blueprint can make a big difference in how comfortable and informed they feel. We recommend keeping the conversation client-centered and leaving space for questions.

Here’s a simple way to explain Blueprint:

"Blueprint is a tool I use to track your progress, document our sessions more efficiently, and make sure our work together is as effective as possible. It helps me spend less time on paperwork and more time focused on you.

With your consent, Blueprint can record our sessions in the background, then securely delete the audio after creating a transcript and a note for me to review. It’s designed to support—not replace—the care I provide. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about it."

Addressing Client Security & Privacy Concerns

It’s natural for clients to have questions about privacy, especially when technology is involved. When addressing concerns, it helps to name the specific ways Blueprint protects their information:

  • HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 Type II certified, which means our systems and practices are independently audited for data security and privacy.

  • End-to-end encryption ensures all data is securely stored.

  • Audio recordings are automatically deleted after the session note is generated—only the transcript remains for your review.

  • If clients want more information, you can direct them to Blueprint’s Data Security page or the Client Guide, which explain these safeguards in more detail. You can find a signable copy of our BAA for your practice here: Business Associate Agreement (BAA)

If a Client Prefers Not to Be Recorded

Some clients may prefer not to have their sessions recorded, and that’s completely okay. In these cases, clinicians generally opt to use Blueprint’s Dictation Mode, where you provide a 2-3 minute verbal summary of your session and Blueprint will generate the note for you to review. No recording necessary!
